Gavin on the services offered by Oakley Business Solutions...
"Whether it is a small, medium and large businesses, it does depend on what sort of budget people have got to play with. Start-up businesses can still benefit from our services, at a lower cost.
"It all depends on what features and functionality a customer wants, and whether or not it's for one platform or multiple platforms. So for example, everyone knows the iPhone, are expecting you to deliver an iPhone app which will work across all platforms, but it actually often doesn't.
"If you had a sample of 100 people and you developed an app for the iPhone, you'd only reach 30 of them. So if you wanted to reach 80 of them you'd have to include an app suitable for Android phones. That's a very important message for people."
On Oakley's price structure...
"It can be as pricey as 'how long is a piece of string', but it's always good to start off with a blank piece of paper, start with a small budget, and then start looking at how you can improve development for future versions."
On the rapidly evolving world of mobile technologies...
"Technology is changing and it's now about how people are using their mobile phones to interact with the business and interact with products and services. Technology is helping them do that.
"So the iPhone, for example, has more power in it than the Apollo space mission had. Now that's a really interesting fact, and it demonstrates how much technology and computing power is in an iPhone.
"There are normally five things with an iPhone: it's got a voice recorder, e-mail, a camera, mail functionality, and, one of the most important things it has is the GPS, which allows you to be anywhere in the world. So a company can send you a message, and you can interact with that company through the applications as well.
"That's a really important message; technology is changing every day. A new iPhone comes out, a new iPad comes out, Android bring out a new phone.
"We've recently seen something called near-field communication (NFC), where you can use your phone as your wallet. So now you can buy a Starbucks with your phone."
On why businesses overlook mobile technology at their peril...
"I think if you're not using mobile technology, you're going to miss out on a trick. There's been some recent analysis by Google showing that if you have a mobile site you'll increase your search optimisation and your rankings on Google by 30%.
"If you don't have a mobile commerce site, and your competitors do, then you're going to limit your interaction with customers in the way they purchase, and who they purchase from.
"So that's really key. And also, consumers expect it. Look at people's buying behaviour - they will search for things online and use their mobile to do so."
